Detailed Tour Itinerary:
Pre-Tour– Stay overnight in Huangshan City
Arrive into Huangshan City the day before your tour is scheduled to begin or alternatively, activities/itinerary/day order can be changed to reflect your arrival time if arriving early on Day 1.
Day 1 – Stay overnight on Yellow Mountain
In the morning, your private guide and driver will meet you at your hotel or Huangshanbei Railway Station. From there, you’ll transfer to the scenic area of Huangshan Mountain, one of China’s most beautiful and iconic landscapes. The drive will take around an hour, allowing you to soak in the surrounding views of the lush, mountainous region. Upon arrival, you’ll take a cable car up to the back of the mountain, saving time and energy for the exciting hikes ahead.
Once on the mountain, you’ll start your hike by visiting Bright Summit, the second-highest peak of Huangshan. From here, you’ll take in panoramic views of the vast sea of clouds and towering peaks. Afterward, the hike continues to the famous Flying Rock, an impressive boulder seemingly perched precariously on the edge of a cliff, providing another stunning viewpoint.
After lunch on the mountain, the afternoon will be spent exploring the West Sea Grand Canyon, one of Huangshan’s most spectacular areas. This part of the mountain offers dramatic landscapes, steep cliffs, and dense pine forests. You’ll also visit the Fairy-Crossing Bridge, a stunning spot that looks like something out of a fantasy world. By late afternoon, you’ll check into the Baiyun Hotel, located at the summit of the mountain, where you’ll spend the night. The evening will be free for you to relax and enjoy the quiet mountain atmosphere.
Day 2 – Stay overnight in Hongcun
For those interested, the day begins with an optional sunrise hike back to Bright Summit (weather permitting). Watching the sunrise over the sea of clouds is a magical experience that draws many visitors to Huangshan. Afterward, you’ll return to the hotel for breakfast.
Following breakfast, the adventure continues with a hike to Lotus Peak, the highest peak on Huangshan. Standing at 1,864 meters, this peak offers breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment as you reach the summit. From there, you’ll make your way to the Jade Screen Pavilion, another scenic spot known for its unique rock formations and ancient pine trees, such as the famous “Greeting Pine”, one of the most photographed trees in China.
After spending the morning hiking, you’ll break for lunch at a mountain restaurant. Once refreshed, you’ll take a private bus to the picturesque Hongcun Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its well-preserved ancient architecture. On the way, you’ll pass through several other Hui-style villages, known for their traditional whitewashed walls and black-tiled roofs. Upon arrival at Hongcun, you’ll have time to stroll through its winding lanes, admire the idyllic bridges, lakeside views, and explore the ox-shaped water system that has been ingeniously designed to provide both irrigation and fire prevention.
For those interested, an optional hot springs experience (subject to time) is available in the mountain valley, where you can relax in the natural springs after a day of hiking. By the evening, you’ll check in to Hongcun Zhongkun Qishu Lakeside Resort, where you can unwind and enjoy the peaceful countryside atmosphere.
Day 3 – END OF TOUR
After breakfast at your lakeside resort, the day begins with further exploration of Hongcun Village. Known as a stronghold of the wealthy Wang clan, Hongcun is famous for its picturesque bridges, lakeside scenery and beautifully preserved traditional halls. You’ll learn more about the village’s rich history and its unique ox-shaped water system, a brilliant piece of ancient engineering that still functions today.
Late in the morning, you’ll leave Hongcun and travel to Tunxi, the historical district of Huangshan City. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before setting out to explore Tunxi Old Street. This famous pedestrian street dates back to the Song Dynasty and is lined with old shops, tea houses, and restaurants, all housed in restored traditional buildings. As you walk through the narrow stone-paved lanes, you’ll get a glimpse of the region’s rich Huizhou culture and its centuries-old architecture.
During your time on Tunxi Old Street, you’ll also have the chance to visit the City Museum, which showcases the history and cultural heritage of the region. Additionally, you’ll explore the local tea culture by visiting renowned tea houses and learning about Huangshan Maofeng, Taiping Kowkui, and Keemun Black Tea. These teas are some of the best green and black teas in China and you’ll have the opportunity to taste and if interested, purchase them as souvenirs.
By the late afternoon, your tour will conclude with a return transfer to your departure point, marking the end of your 3 Day Huangshan Tour.
