Detailed Tour Itinerary:

Day 1Arrival in Beijing/Stay overnight in Beijing
Upon arrival, your private guide will meet you at the airport and escort you to your Beijing Hotel with a private transfer. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Beijing at your own pace or relax at leisure.

 

Day 2 Stay overnight in Beijing
Your day begins with a visit to Tian’anmen Square, where your guide will share its historical significance and the role it has played in shaping China’s modern history.

 

Thereafter, you’ll visit the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace, where your guide will take you through the vast complex, explaining its architecture, lives of the emperors and other stories.  Following the Forbidden City, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing lunch (optional, not included) to sample some traditional Beijing cuisine.

 

In the afternoon, visit the Beijing Hutongs, the historic alleyways that offer a glimpse into the city’s past. As you stroll through these narrow lanes, your guide will provide insights into the local culture and the history of these neighborhoods. It also includes a visit to a local family’s home within the Hutongs, gaining a unique perspective on traditional life.

  

The day will conclude with a return to your Beijing Hotel or you can continue to explore Beijing’s attractions at your leisure.

Day 3 – Stay overnight in Beijing

Today’s itinerary begins with a pick-up from your Beijing Hotel, before traveling directly to the Temple of Heaven – one of Beijing’s most significant landmarks. Here, your guide will explain the temple’s historical importance as a place where emperors prayed for good harvests. You’ll also experience the lively atmosphere of the surrounding park, where local residents engage in various morning activities.

After exploring the Temple of Heaven, you’ll embark on a drive to the Mutianyu Section of the Great Wall, (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours). Once you arrive, you can enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant (optional, not included) giving you a chance to relax before visiting the Wall.  To maximize time and sightseeing options on the Great Wall, you’ll take a round-trip cable car to ascend and descend the Wall. As you walk along the Wall, your guide will share stories about its history, construction and significance in China’s history. You’ll have ample time to enjoy the breathtaking views and walk along the ancient structure, discovering firsthand the history of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Following your day at the Great Wall, return transfer to your hotel for evening at leisure.

Day 4 – Stay overnight in Shanghai
Today begins with a pick-up from your Beijing Hotel and transfer to the Summer Palace – one of Beijing’s most iconic sites known for its stunning landscapes and imperial history. With your guide, you will explore the vast palace grounds and serene lake area, immersing yourself in the beauty of the surroundings. Your tour guide will share insights into the history of the palace, its role in the Qing Dynasty and the various architectural wonders within the grounds, including the famous Long Corridor and Marble Boat.

  

After your visit, either enjoy a relaxing lunch at a nearby restaurant (optional, not included) or take some free time at leisure before your train departure. Transfer to the Railway Station, where your guide will assist you.
Board the high-speed train to Shanghai, a journey which takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours, allowing passengers to relax and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Day 5 – Stay overnight in Shanghai
In the morning, pick up from your Shanghai Hotel and begin the day with a visit to The Bund. The tour guide will delve into the rich history of Shanghai, explaining the significance of the iconic buildings that line the waterfront.
